Is Jrue Holiday the ‘missing piece’ for a Celtics championship? Paul Pierce thinks so.
This season, it’s not uncommon to see former Celtics stopping by practice at the Auerbach Center.
Two weeks ago, Paul Pierce dropped by and held an impromptu 3-point shooting contest with Eddie House and assistant coach Sam Cassell after practice.
Rajon Rondo was there on Monday, and he gave Brown a few pointers.
“So far, just it’s been like what we’re trying to do,” Brown said. “Seeing the game, showing me little places where I can attack, reading the game in certain avenues, stuff that could help me, stuff that he sees. So far, it’s been great.”
Brown, who is entering his eighth season with the Celtics, said he grew up watching players like Rondo and Pierce play.
“It’s so cool having these guys coming around and being a part of practice, being part of the organization,” Brown said. “Growing up, watching the Celtics, seeing guys like KG, Rondo, and Pierce and stuff like that, now having them in our practice and our film room telling us ‘nah, this is how you gotta do it, this is what they see’ I think that’s a tremendous honor.”
“These guys could be doing something else,” Brown continued. “But, they choose to be here with this group. That says a lot about us and a lot about them. I’m extremely grateful for that. I think that’s super cool.”
Brown, who signed a Supermax extension with the Celtics in the offseason, spoke about the hunger he had to get the deal done.
“I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t motivated,” Brown said. “I’m extremely motivated. I’m the kind of guy that always finds a chip on his shoulder to come out and compete.”
Brown said that he’s excited to get the season started and chase Banner No. 18. The Celtics open the regular season on the road Wednesday night in New York before hosting the Heat at TD Garden on Friday.
“Not being able to get to the ultimate goal so far in my career is something that gives you extra motivation. I’m excited about the year. I’m excited about the journey. I’m ready to go.”
